PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks aren’t the only team facing outfield adjustments with Corbin Carroll sidelined, as Team USA now must find a replacement for him in the World Baseball Classic.

The Arizona All-Star was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a hamate bone injury that required surgery, putting his timeline for a return between four and six weeks. This would keep him out of action through the WBC, forcing Team USA to find a quick replacement.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, Team USA is considering Steven Kwan, Tyler Soderstrom, Riley Greene, Roman Anthony, James Wood, Wyatt Langford and Kyle Stowers to fill Carroll’s spot in the tournament.

While a necessary move to keep the roster competitive and ensure enough position players for the WBC, Carroll’s absence leaves Arizona without a key presence on the international baseball stage. He was slated to be one of the “big three” in the outfield, alongside American League MVP Aaron Judge and Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Now, it’s a case of “what could have been” rather than reality.

Carroll wasn’t going to be the D-Backs’ only representation in the WBC. Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Nolan Arenado, Michael Soroka and Eduardo Rodríguez are all set to represent their home countries.
Still, this year would have marked Carroll’s first appearance in the tournament — an All-Star debut on the world stage. With the hype around March, he will now have to wait another three years for another opportunity to wear the Team USA jersey in the WBC.

Carroll’s injury is not expected to be long-term and shouldn’t significantly impact the Diamondbacks’ 2026 season overall, but its immediate effects are already being felt in the desert and by the nation’s baseball team.
