Rockwall Heath-ex Caleb Hoover enjoyed a big season at the plate for Grayson College’s baseball team.
Hoover, a freshman first baseman/pitcher, batted .339 in 41 games with a team-high 16 home runs and 49 runs batted in.
He also drew a team-high 38 walks and had an on-base percentage of .506.
Hoover slugged two grand slam homers and drove in eight runs during the Vikings’ 28-5 win over North Central Texas College. The Vikings scored 21 runs in the second inning. The Vikings tied a national junior college record for most runs in a game.
Hoover also pitched in five innings, giving up four hits, four walks and one earned run for an earned run average of 1.80. He struck out four.
Jack Sharp, a freshman pitcher from Heath, pitched in eight games for Grayson. He went 1-0 with an 8.68 ERA. He allowed seven hits and 15 walks in 9 1/3 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Grayson finished at 33-22 for the season and 24-8 in conference play to share the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference title with Weatherford College.

Claire Lowrey, a sophomore from Rockwall, cleared 5 feet, 11 1/2 inches to finish third for Texas Tech in the women’s high jump at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kansas.
Lowrey, a state champion high jumper for Rockwall in 2023, also placed third at the Big 12 outdoor meet in 2024.
Olivia Cade, a senior from Rockwall, cleared 13-9 3/4 to finish sixth for Texas Tech in the women’s pole vault.
Cade was also sixth in the Big 12 outdoor meet in 2024 and second at the Big 12 indoor meet in 2023.

Kailee Bautista, a junior catcher from Heath, led UT-Arlington’s softball team for the season with a .314 batting average. Bautista slugged 15 doubles and four homers, driving in 25 runs. She had a .451 on-base percentage, drawing 27 walks.
She had a .975 fielding percentage with 74 putouts, three assists and only two errors in 79 chances.
UTA went 24-25 for the season, including a 10-14 mark in the Western Athletic Conference.

Mac Rose, a sophomore catcher from Rockwall, is batting .256 for the Vanderbilt baseball team.
Rose has slugged two homers and four doubles. He’s driven in 25 runs and has an on-base percentage of .396.
He has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 163 putouts, 12 assists and no errors in 175 chances.
Vandy completed the regular season with a 39-16 record.

Ava Wallace, a freshman outfielder from Rockwall, batted .255 for the Kansas women’s softball team. She slugged four homers and a double, driving in 18 runs. She had a .307 on-base percentage and .932 fielding percentage with 39 putouts, two assists and only three errors in 44 chances.
Kansas finished at 22-28 overall after falling 7-3 to Baylor in the Big 12 tournament.

Carter Smith, a senior outfielder from Rockwall, batted .317 for the Angelo State women’s softball team. Smith drove in 12 runs and had a .351 on-base percentage.
She had a .981 fielding percentage with 53 putouts and only one error in 54 chances.
Angelo State went 47-13, falling to West Texas A&M in the NCAA Division II South Central region finals. Smith was 1-for-3 in that game, scoring a run.

Jonny Lowe, a junior pitcher from Rockwall, has pitched in nine games for the 20-32 Texas Tech baseball team. He has an 0-2 record with a 12.38 earned run average.
Lowe has allowed 25 hits and 22 earned runs in 16 innings with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts.
