The Chicago White Sox have been making some interesting offseason moves this winter. They finally traded Luis Robert Jr., signed Munetaka Murakami, and also brought in veterans Austin Hays and Seranthony Dominguez.
While they might not be postseason contenders just yet, they are beginning to build up a solid team this offseason. They’re not done adding either.
According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the White Sox are reuniting with free-agent righty pitcher Erick Fedde. Once traded in the 3-team deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, Fedde is now returning to the White Sox.
White Sox to re-sign Erick Fedde after a year away from team
“Source: The White Sox and Erick Fedde are in agreement on a 1-year deal, pending physical,” Sherman reported.
Fedde is 32 years old now and was once a White Sox pitcher who broke out in a major way after a season overseas in Korea.
Through 21 starts with the White Sox in 2024, Fedde had a 3.11 ERA and put up 4.6 bWAR across 121.2 innings pitched in his best season in the Majors by a wide margin.
He was then traded mid-season to the Cardinals as part of a wild 3-team trade that sent Michael Kopech and Tommy Edman to the Dodgers, along with Fedde and Tommy Pham going to the Cardinals.
Coming back to the White Sox in this Fedde trade were Miguel Vargas, prospects Alexander Albertus and Jeral Perez, and future considerations.

While not the best return for the White Sox, they did try to capitalize on Fedde’s breakout 2024 season. After a rough 2025 with the Cardinals, where he had a 5.22 ERA in 20 starts, he was released.
He then joined the Atlanta Braves, posted an 8.10 ERA in five outings and four starts, and was released. He joined the Milwaukee Brewers as a reliever and posted a solid 3.38 ERA in seven outings.
Now, according to Sherman, Fedde is returning to Chicago in free agency. After a down season, Fedde is trying to bounce back, and will attempt to do so where he broke out in a big way two years ago.
