Pistons G Cade Cunningham, a native of Arlington, Texas, has “purchased a minority ownership stake in his hometown MLB team, the Texas Rangers,” according to Shams Charania of ESPN.com. Cunningham is “among the athlete investors in Sportsology Capital Partners, which recently completed the minority investment in the Rangers” (ESPN.com, 2/12). In Detroit, Christian Romo noted it is “was not clear how big of a stake in the team Cunningham has bought.” Cunningham is not the only active NBA player with an ownership stake in a major pro team — Lakers F LeBron James has a stake in Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Red Sox and Liverpool FC, and Bucks F Giannis Antetoukounmpo has a stake in the Brewers (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 2/12).
