The Minnesota Twins haven’t had the most exciting offseason by any means, but they are still looking to add to the Major League club this season.

After a flurry of trade deadline moves last year, including shipping off Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax, the Twins need more bullpen help. And they’ve swung a trade to help fill that need.

According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, the Twins are making a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a lefty reliever who’s a two-time World Series champion in veteran Anthony Banda.

Twins acquire Anthony Banda for international bonus money

“#MNTwins acquire LHP Anthony Banda from Dodgers for international bonus money,” Hayes reports. “Banda had been DFA’d last week.”

Banda is a 32-year-old lefty reliever who was recently released by the Dodgers. In the wake of that move, it was clear Banda would be traded instead of the DFA to go through.

And with plenty of teams likely to have interest, as a lefty reliever who’s been as good as Banda isn’t easy to come by, the Twins were able to swing the trade with the Dodgers.

The return for Banda isn’t a bad one, as the Twins are only giving up international bonus money. No prospects, or even cash considerations, are going to the Dodgers in this deal.

Banda is coming to the Twins and will bring his nine years of MLB experience with him. He’s pitched with eight teams in his career, but the last two years with the Dodgers have been his best.

In 48 appearances in 2024, Banda had a 3.08 ERA. In 71 appearances last season, he had a 3.18 ERA. While his 9.53 ERA in the postseason this past year wasn’t great, his 1.13 ERA the year prior in the Dodgers World Series run was huge for L.A.

Adding Banda is a very savvy move from the Twins, as the World Series champion and veteran journeyman lefty reliever should be a solid pickup for the Twins in 2026.
