The Los Angeles Dodgers signed All-Star third baseman Max Muncy to a one-year extension with an option for the 2028 season Thursday.

Muncy’s extension is worth $7 million in 2027, and the club option in 2028 is worth $10 million. The Dodgers picked up his $10 million option for the 2026 season earlier in the winter.

The 35-year-old third baseman expressed his desire to retire with the Dodgers during the regular season, but said he still has a few years left in him.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that I would like to retire here,” Muncy told LA Sports Report’s Doug McKain. “I’ve made that very well known.

“In terms of how that works out, I can’t worry about that right now.

“I would hope I have several big years left in me. … The goal is to focus on the here and now.”

Muncy has played eight of his 10 MLB seasons with the Dodgers, making his debut for the team in the 2028 season.

Why Did the Dodgers Extend Max Muncy?

Since joining the Dodgers, Muncy has provided a consistent, solid bat in the middle of the lineup.

In 2025, Muncy put together a great case to warrant picking up his option despite struggling with injury during the back half of the season. Through 100 games, Muncy hit 19 homers and logged 67 RBIs while posting a .846 OPS.

The Dodgers have their third baseman locked down for at least two more seasons, and will look to capitalize on his presence as they look to continue their dominance in the NL West.
