Former Dodgers utilityman Chris Taylor has re-signed with the Angels in free agency
Even after winning their second-straight World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers have refused to take their foot off the gas pedal this offseason. With big-name signings such as Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz highlighting their work over the past few months, the Dodgers are once again entering the 2026 campaign as the favorite to win it all.
It may seem like Los Angeles doesn’t have room for all these players, but it continues to add players into the mix, with Enrique Hernandez being signed by the team earlier this week. There is a limit to what the Dodgers can do, though, as they recently watched one of their former utility players, Chris Taylor, re-sign with one of their top rivals.
Chris Taylor Re-Signs with Angels in Free Agency
Chris Taylor is here at #Angels camp. It’s a Minor League deal.
Taylor is one of what feels like 1,000 guys who emerged from seemingly out of nowhere to become key contributors for baseball’s latest dynasty. An unheralded utility player, Taylor found his way to Los Angeles in 2016, and he turned himself into a do-it-all fielder who could also hold his own at the plate.
During his 10 seasons with the Dodgers, Taylor did a little bit of everything. He played virtually every position in the field for the team, while also becoming a staple of their lineup. Taylor earned an All-Star selection in 2021 when he hit .254 with 20 home runs and 73 RBIs, and he also won NLCS MVP in 2017, when he hit .316 with two home runs and three RBIs in five games against the Chicago Cubs.
With more and more superstars finding their way to the Dodgers, Taylor became expendable in 2025, and he ended up getting released in May last season. Taylor was scooped up by the Los Angeles Angels, but he didn’t fare much better for them. Still, Taylor’s positional versatility makes him an asset, and the Angels are opting to see what he has left in the tank, as they signed him to a minor league contract earlier this week.

Considering how he won two World Series titles with Los Angeles, Taylor’s legacy is already secure, even if his time with the team didn’t come to a fantastic end. At 35 years old, Taylor is obviously approaching the end of his career, but he will have a better shot at earning at-bats with the Angels than he would with the loaded Dodgers.
With Hernandez back in the fold, Taylor’s old L.A. team simply didn’t have room for him on their roster (not that a reunion ever seemed particularly likely). Still, fans will likely keep tabs on Taylor’s status as he looks to crack the Angels’ Opening Day roster. The Dodgers, though, have their sights set on winning another World Series, and while the season hasn’t even gotten started, it’s looking like it will be very tough to prevent them from achieving that goal.
