2026 game-by-game results
This section will be updated as games finalize.
A preview of the 2026 Cleveland Guardians
After chasing down the Tigers in the regular season, the blueprint to a third-straight division title is on the table. One of the worst offenses in baseball needs reinforcements after batting a franchise-low .226 and ranking 28th in runs scored in MLB.
Offense in desperate need of help
Cleveland staples Jose Ramirez, fresh off his seven-year, $175 million extension, and Steven Kwan, who was almost flipped at last year’s trade deadline, will again anchor the bewildered offense that did just enough to sneak into the postseason last year.
Kyle Manzardo, Brayan Rocchio and C.J. Kayfus are names to watch in 2026 after posting solid contributions in last year’s run. The question remains whether the front office will finally address Cleveland’s glaring weakness?
Six starting pitchers, five spots
Starting pitchers Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee headline a staff that runs six deep heading into spring training. Slade Cecconi, Logan Allen, Parker Messick and Joey Cantillo provide no shortage of firepower on the mound. The latter could be moved to a bullpen role.
A tangled web and one of baseball’s best bullpens
Flamethrowing closer Emmanuel Clase and starting pitcher Louis L. Ortiz remain away from the team as they navigate a tangled web of baseball gambling allegations. Clase, the franchise save leader, is under indictment from federal prosecutors and is still owed $6.4 million from the club. If Cleveland gets a ruling from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred on his future, they can shed that skin and focus on acquiring a bat.
Regardless, the Guardians have stuffed the back half of one of the best bullpens in baseball over the last two years. Cade Smith returns to his original role, along with Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin, Matt Festa and Erik Sabrowski. Smith is the frontrunner to be the closer after dabbling in the role in 2025.
A brutal opening slate
The Guardians will face a brutal schedule to open up the season, opening with a four-game series against the ALCS finalist Seattle Mariners before battling the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cleveland plays its home opener on April 3 against the Chicago Cubs, part of a three-game series. The Guardians get their first look at the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays on April 24, part of a three-game series.
Guards ball
Cleveland continues to defy the odds of baseball’s version of a minuscule payroll (projected $74 million) and have won six AL Central titles in the last 10 years, including a World Series berth in 2016 and trip to the ALCS in 2024. The franchise has topped two million in attendance for the last two years.
A powerful pitching staff and timely at-bats that do just enough to reach the playoff threshold have been the norm at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario for quite some time. Will it be the same old song and dance in 2026?
