CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Guardians RHP Nic Enright’s road to the big leagues looks different than most.
Enright was the Guardians 20th-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and was selected by Miami from the Guardians in the Rule 5 Draft on December 7, 2022.
On Dec. 18, Enright said he woke up and felt what he thought was a crick in his neck. After a trip to the ER and many tests later, doctors told him they were 99 percent sure he had Hodgkin Lymphoma.

“On December 26 I have a port in and I’m sitting there looking at it wondering, am I ever going to be able to throw again,” Enright said.
The reliever said he tried to keep his life as normal as possible as he underwent treatment, and credited his wife, Erin, and family for supporting him through the difficult journey.
Enright has undergone 12 immunotherapy treatments since his diagnosis, and has one more treatment this November.
Enright said he’s hopeful this will be his final treatment, and that his scans and bloodwork continue to look good.
