Softball sectional play began on Monday afternoon with all three of the Adams County teams starting their postseason journeys.

Bellmont made the short trip to Ossian and extracted revenge with a 9-5 win over Norwell. South Adams protected home field by downing Adams Central 15-5.

Bellmont took control of their Class 3A Sectional 22 first-round game with a four-run performance in the first inning.

The biggest highlight of the game for Bellmont came in the second inning. Finnley Godsey hit a fly ball to center field. A steady breeze blowing that direction helped carry the ball over the wall for a two-run home run.

Defeating Norwell means the Braves have avenged a loss in the sectional championship game to the Knights last spring.

Adams Central took an early lead in Berne thanks to back-to-back home runs. The first long ball was a two-run homer from Melina Peralez. The second was worth one run, and it came from Izzy Isch.

But South Adams came storming back.

After a run in the bottom of the first, the Starfires scored eight in the second inning. They closed out their 10-run victory in the fifth.

Bellmont will face Heritage in the sectional semifinals on Wednesday night at 5:30.

South Adams will take on Whitko at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Sectional 22 Championship Game is scheduled for Thursday night, while that of Sectional 36 will be played on Saturday.
