There will soon be a new baby hanging out around Rogers Centre with the Toronto Blue Jays this season.

Emily Little, the wife of Blue Jays relief pitcher Brendon Little, took to Instagram over the weekend to announce that she and her husband are expecting their first child in August.

“Little family grows to 3 this August,” she wrote.

The young and happy couple recently celebrated their three-year wedding anniversary.

Little, 29, is coming off a season which saw him throw a career-high 68.1 innings. Though generally used in low-leverage situations, he impressed with a 3.03 ERA and 91 strikeouts.

As good as Little was, however, he is remembered by Blue Jays fans for a tough playoff showing.

It all began in Game 5 of the ALCS, when manager John Schneider elected to go with the left-handed Little while holding a 2-1 lead. That decision proved costly, as Cal Raleigh immediately took him deep, followed up by a grand slam from Eugenio Suarez a short time later.

The good news for Little was that the Blue Jays, despite going down 3-2 in the series, were able to win the next two outings in order to punch their ticket to the World Series.

More disaster struck for Little in the World Series, however, as he gave up a walk-off home run to Freddie Freeman in the 18th inning of Game 3. While there was plenty of blame to be dished around in that loss, many Jays fans were specifically frustrated with Little.

Despite Little’s disappointing playoff performance, his showing in the regular season gives Jays fans reason for optimism moving forward. And, who knows, perhaps he’ll have a young one around to watch and serve as a good-luck charm as they hunt for another World Series appearance.
