Tennessee Could Alter Its Starting Pitcher Order

Tennessee is rolling with the same three starting pitches — RHP Tegan Kuhns, RHP Landon Mack, LHP Evan Blanco — that it did last weekend against Nicholls. But the order could be a bit different.

Kuhns will start again on Friday but Tennessee is leaving it open as to whether Mack or Blanco will start on Saturday with the other starting on Sundyay. Mack started on Saturday a week ago but has been a bit under the weather this week.

The trio were fantastic a week ago, allowing just one earned run in a combined 17.2 innings pitched. We’ll see if they can keep it going against a better mid-major squad.

Kent State Is A Serious Contender To Make The NCAA Tournament

Kent State should provide a real test for Tennessee this weekend. The Golden Zips posted a 38-18 (23-7 MAC) record a season ago, winning the MAC Regular Season before falling in the conference tournament. Miami (Ohio) won the conference tournament and came to the Knoxville Regional in the NCAA Tournament.

The conference’s coaches picked Kent State to finish second in the MAC this season behind only Miami (Ohio). This is a team that’s full capable of making the NCAA Tournament.

Kent State is off to a strong 3-1 start to the 2026 season, sweeping SE Louisiana to begin the season before falling to LSU in a competitive 10-7 game on Tuesday.

Injury Updates On A Handful Of Banged Up Vols

Tennessee has been banged up to begin the season but appears to be getting healthier entering the weekend. Infielder Manny Marin is poised to return to the lineup after missing the last three games with a hand injury.

Left-handed pitcher Brandon Arvidson seems to be trending in the right direction and could make his season debut this weekend after battling arm soreness in the preseason.

Utility men Blake Grimmer and Garrett Wright both remain out. Grimmer is dealing with back pain while Wright is getting closer to making his debut after breaking the hamate bone in his wrist in the preseason.
