Guardians start the Cactus League 2-0

  • February 22, 2026

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (WOIO) – The Cleveland Guardians improved to 2-0 in spring training Saturday, sweeping a split-squad doubleheader with victories over the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers.

The Guardians defeated the Reds 4-2 at Goodyear Ballpark and beat the Brewers 9-6 at American Family Fields of Phoenix.

In Goodyear, left-hander Logan Allen started for Cleveland, allowing one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings as he prepares for his World Baseball Classic debut with Team Panama.

Cincinnati’s Wil Benson, a former Cleveland outfielder, hit a two-run home run in the third inning off Guardians right-hander Colin Holderman to give the Reds an early lead.

Cleveland answered in the fourth when catcher Bo Naylor and shortstop Gabriel Arias hit back-to-back doubles to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Guardians tied it in the sixth on an RBI double by designated hitter David Fry and took the lead for good in the seventh when third baseman Carter Kieboom doubled home two runs.

Against Milwaukee, left fielder Nolan Jones and catcher Cooper Ingle each hit three-run home runs in consecutive innings to lead the Guardians’ offense. Jones also contributed an opposite-field double in the fourth inning that highlighted a frame featuring four walks and a Brewers error.

Cleveland will continue spring training Sunday, facing the Oakland Athletics at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa at 3:05 p.m. EST.
