The Athletic | Brendan Kuty: (subscription required) With the injuries to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Oswaldo Cabrera, former top prospect Oswald Peraza has had in front of him his biggest opportunity since losing the shortstop battle to Anthony Volpe prior to the 2023 season. Unfortunately for him, although his teammates and coaches rave about his work ethic and physical toolset, he has failed to put together productive at bats on a consistent basis: heading into action last night, he has been among the league’s bottom quartile in whiff rate and swing decisions, resulting in a .560 OPS. If he does not turn it around quickly, he may very well find himself cut loose sooner rather than later.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Three weeks after getting the call up to Double-A Somerset, George Lombard Jr. has continued to impress. The 19-year-old infielder, who has primarily played shortstop but has received reps at both second and third, has continued to be an on-base machine with the Patriots, reaching base safely in 15 of his first 16 games at the level — including 14 straight. While Lombard is unlikely to get the call to Triple-A Scranton this year, he has shown plenty of reasons for Yankees fans to be optimistic about his future.

Sports Illustrated | Jack Markowski: It may still be May, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start looking to next winter. Japanese corner infielder Munetaka Murakami is expected to be posted by the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, his current ball club, after the season, and perhaps unsurprisingly given their current hole at the hot corner, the Yankees are considered one of the prime landing spots for him.
