The Los Angeles Dodgers non-tendered Brent Honeywell after the 2024 season, and after a year off, he is signing with the San Francisco Giants, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.

According to Cotillo, Honeywell is signing a minor league contract with the Giants. He made his debut in 2021 for the Tampa Bay Rays and pitched just 4 1/3 innings that season. He was traded to the Athletics after the season for cash, but missed most of the season with an elbow injury and never pitched in the big leagues for the Athletics.

He signed with the San Diego Padres the following season, but was designated for assignment after 36 games. He posted a 4.05 ERA with the Padres. He was claimed by the Chicago White Sox and had an 11.12 ERA in four games before he was designated for assignment again.

He started 2024 off with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but was designated for assignment in July, after just two appearances with the Pirates in the big leagues. The Dodgers claimed him, and he was a solid player for their team. In 18 games for the Dodgers, he had a 2.62 ERA. He started one game and finished 12 in the regular season.

He made three postseason appearances, but allowed nine earned runs in 8 2/3 innings. His numbers were not great in the postseason, but he served an important role. After the Dodgers went down 8-2 in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series, Honeywell threw 4 2/3 innings and 67 pitches to save the bullpen.

He saved the Dodgers’ bullpen multiple times on their way to winning the World Series. He did not pitch last season, but when he visited the team to collect his ring, Freddie Freeman thanked him for what he did.

“Brent: I think it goes without saying what you did for us in the playoffs last year, especially in Game 5 of the NLCS, will go down as one of the most selfless acts I’ve seen on a baseball field,” Freeman said in a clip posted by the Dodgers. “For me personally, I just want to say thank you. That was awesome, what you did last year man. Appreciate you very much.””

After not pitching for a whole season in the big leagues, Honeywell will now try to carve out a role for the Giants.
