Former Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brent Honeywell Jr. signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

Honeywell’ deal doesn’t not include an invite to the Giants’ big league camp, per Mercury News’ Justice Delos Santos.

The right-hander last appeared in MLB in 2024 with the Dodgers, spending all of the 2025 season unsigned. The Dodgers non-tendered him following the first of their last two World Series victories.

Honeywell will look to re-establish his value with the Giants and return to MLB for the first time since pitching in the World Series against the New York Yankees.

Honeywell joined the Dodgers midway through their championship campaign in 2024, as they claimed him off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates in July of that year.

He stayed on the roster for the remainder of the regular season despite battling injury, posting a 2.62 ERA through 18 appearances and 34.1 innings pitched.

Honeywell also made three appearances in the postseason for the Dodgers — the only ones of his career so far — posting a 9.35 ERA through 8.2 innings pitched. He threw a scoreless three innings in his first appearance against the New York Mets, but struggled to keep runs off the board in his following contests.

He allowed four runs in 4.2 innings in his second appearance against the Mets and five runs in one inning during the World Series against the Yankees.

Prior to his time with the Dodgers and Pirates, Honeywell spent time with the Tampa Bay Ryas, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox. Formerly a Top 100 prospect with the Rays, Honeywell struggled to stay healthy during his rise to the majors, missing several seasons due to various injuries in his elbow. Through 63 career MLB appearances, Honeywell has a 4.10 ERA and has struck out 69 batters in 94.1 inning pitched.

He had a 2.63 ERA in his last MLB season, so if he can remain healthy in the Giants’ organization, he could find a spot for himself in MLB once again.

Are you surprised it took Brent Honeywell Jr. this long to find a new MLB team?
