If you can’t be in Houston for the 26th annual Bruce Bolt College Classic, have no fear the Rebels will be streamed for free this weekend as it faces Baylor, Ohio State and Coastal Carolina at Daikin Park.
Games for the BBCC will be streamed live on Astros.com and on the Houston Astros YouTube channel for free, so the 3:05 p.m. CT first pitch on Friday you can watch from your cubicle, home, phone or wherever you please. Pretty good deal for those of us who can’t be there in person and also want to mentally and/or physically check out on a Friday afternoon.
PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUPS
Hunter Elliott had a bumpy outing last week against Missouri State, so his ERA has shot up dramatically week to week. He threw nearly 100 pitches and was chased in the fifth inning of a game that Ole Miss ultimately won, so I don’t think its any reason for concern. Elliott has been there and done that on the biggest stage, and today’s game against Baylor will hopefully see a return to form.
Baylor will send Stefan Stahl to the mound who has yet to give up an earned run this season. He works pretty damn efficiently as evidenced by his last outing against Oregon State where he went 4 IP, 0 ER and 3 K’s on only 52 pitches. The Bears did lose that game, but it wasn’t for a lack of a solid near half game from Stahl. The Rebels will need to work its counts when possible to elevate that pitch count to maybe cause some stress for the senior left hander.
On Saturday, Cade Townsend will look to continue his hot streak this season against Ohio State. Townsend has 16 strikeouts in 8.2 IP, so honestly just let him throw a complete game and see him mow 67 percent of the batters down imo. In all seriousness, there’s been reports the coaching staff is slowly building up his volume for the strain of SEC play, so this will be a good test to see if he can go five complete innings against a Power 4 opponent.
This is one of those “we’re the SEC and they’re the Big Ten no sweat” kind of games that could get uncomfortable. Chris Domke is a big right hander coming back from an injury last season, and he has yet to top 75 pitches in either outing this season. Against Louisiana Tech, he had a solid start going 4.1 IP with two earned runs and seven strikeouts against what I think is a good baseball program. I do think if Ole Miss gets into this bullpen before the sixth inning its a good day for the boys in red and blue.
Big fan of the Sunday pinstripes if the powder blues continue to not be the old school powder blues of yore. Real shame on you Nike. Wil Libbert will start on Sunday and the TBA from Coastal Carolina is because of some breaking news this week the Chanticleers have lost two of its weekend starters to injury for the next 6 to 8 weeks, which you absolutely hate to see. I would assume it will be a by committee weekend for CCU, but still its a very dangerous team when it takes the field.
First pitch for Friday is set for 3:05 p.m. CT. You still have time to run and grab some ice cold domestics to “work from home” this afternoon.
