SURPRISE, Ariz. — Ignore the fact that pitchers and catchers reported more than two weeks ago: spring training doesn’t truly start until a bug hits the clubhouse.

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is “under the weather” and will be sidelined “a couple of days,” manager Skip Schumaker said Friday morning. Seager recorded his first Cactus League hit — a 105.9 mph single off Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Aaron Ashby — in Thursday’s game to snap an 0-for-5 start to exhibition play.

He’s one of a handful of regulars who will not play in Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox at Glendale’s Camelback Ranch alongside third baseman Josh Jung, catcher Kyle Higashioka and infielder Justin Foscue.

Jung has been sidelined since Tuesday with hamstring tightness. Schumaker said the 27-year-old is expected to return to the lineup Sunday or Monday. Higashioka is on the same timeline. He reported a back injury earlier this week but feels “a lot better,” per Schumaker, and is expected to participate in workouts and live bullpens before a Sunday or Monday return.

Foscue, who exited Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with hamstring tightness, is a few days behind Jung and Higashioka. Schumaker that Foscue has gone through running progressions but is still “a few days away” from his return to the lineup. Foscue slashed .571/.571/.714 in his first three games as he battles for a roster spot.
