Today, in the second game of a three-game series, the Colorado Rockies (9-45) will face the Chicago Cubs (33-21).
The Rockies dropped the first game to the Cubs, 3-1. With that loss, Colorado has lost seven in a row at Wrigley Field.
Tonight, however, they will look to even the series and break their losing streak.
It’s worth noting this is the Rockies’ longest roadtrip of the season. In addition, The Rockies’ 9-45 record is the worst in the Modern Era (since 1901) through 54 games. Moreover, their -173 run differential is the worst in the Majors and the second-worst in the Modern Era through 54 games behind the 2023 Athletics (-190).
Germán Márquez, the longest-tenured active Rockie, will take the mound for Colorado. This will be his eleventh start of 2025, and he has a 7.66 ERA (1.68 WHIP) in 47.0 innings pitched. (This is the second-highest ERA in the Majors for any pitcher with a minimum of 10 starts.) He has struck out 26.
When starting against the Cubs, Márquez Is 1-3 (Rockies 5-3) with a 6.75 ERA in eight career starts. He is 0-2 (Rockies 2-2) with a 7.85 ERA (18.1 IP, 16 ER) in four career starts at Wrigley Field.
RHP Cade Horton will start for the Cubs tonight. This I’ll be his third start since making his MLB debut on May 10 against the New York Mets.
Currently, he has a 4.40 ERA (1.40 WHIP) in 14.1 innings pitched with 10 strikeouts. Watch out for his changeup: Opponents are 0-for-6 with three strikeouts against this pitch.
