It took an incredible relay for the Baltimore Orioles to even have a play at the plate.

But at the end of the play, Orioles catching phenom Samuel Basallo was laying on the ground in pain. It’s an injury scene no Baltimore fan would want to see.
First, the play:

At first glance, it was fair to wonder if something had happened to his glove arm as he extended to tag, but that didn’t appear to be the case.
Basallo seemed to be feeling pain in his midsection, at least visually.
The Orioles will likely release more info at some point, but for the moment, Basallo left the game.
The 21-year old is one of the most promising young players in all of baseball. He struggled in his first stint in the big leagues last season (.165 batting average, 4 HR), but that hasn’t taken the shine off much.

He’s still expected to cause some future questions about what to do with Adley Rutschman when they’ve also got Basallo. This season, Basallo would be expected to DH more often with Rutschman behind the plate, but he was getting defensive work in on Thursday, and it left him down and injured.
