The Gregory-Portland Ladycats concluded the Converse Jason tournament by splitting a pair of games Saturday to finish 2-3 over the three-day event.
The Ladycats (6-12-2) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to Laredo United South with a seven-run fifth inning to take a 7-5 victory.
Leanna Molina went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Lauren Bennett was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Emily LaFavers worked all five innings, allowing one earned run while striking out four.
Later Saturday, G-P concluded the tournament with a 6-4 loss to San Benito. Alyssa Padron led the Lady Cats offensively, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Cadence Sandoval added a two-run hit.Â
Gregory-Portland opened the tournament Thursday with a 9-5 win over Long Creek in a four-inning game. The Ladycats scored nine runs on nine hits, building a 9-0 lead through two innings before Long Creek answered with five in the second.
LaFavers picked up the win in relief, working 2 1/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts. At the plate, Sandoval went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while LaFavers finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Emily Cameron added a 2-for-3 line with two runs.
On Friday, G-P dropped two games. San Antonio MacArthur used a pair of three-run innings early to hand the Lady Cats a 6-4 loss. The Ladycats rallied with a four-run third and fourth, but couldn’t erase the deficit.
Cameron paced the offense with a triple and two RBIs, while LaFavers went 2-for-2 with an RBI. In the circle, Kinsey Garcia struck out four in 3 2/3 innings.
Later Friday, San Antonio Antonian Prep jumped in front early and pulled away for a 17-3 win over the Ladycats. Kailani Vargas went 2-for-2 with two doubles, while Cameron and Garcia each drove in a run.
G-P, which is 1-2 in District 29-5A, will return to league action Tuesday when it hosts Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 7 p.m.Â
