Kylee Ward tossed a pair of shutouts and the Ingleside Lady Mustangs went 4-2 across six games at the Coastal Classic on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Ward fired a one-hitter with six strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Godley on Saturday. She earlier went six scoreless innings and had eight strikeouts in a 5-0 victory over Colorado City on Thursday.
Ingleside (12-8) opened play Thursday with a 5-3 win over Pleasanton. Ruby Eppard went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Kaylee Murua finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Ward added a pair of hits. Ingleside scored two in the first, two in the second and pushed across the go-ahead run in the fourth.
The Lady Mustangs followed with a 5-0 win over Tuscola Jim Ned, scoring four runs in the second inning and adding one more in the third. Dara Davila went 1-for-1 and scored twice, while Murua drove in two and added a triple.
On Friday, Ingleside dropped a 2-0 decision to Somerset. Ward struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings. The Lady Mustangs bounced back later in the day with their 5-0 win over Colorado City, breaking it open with three runs in the third and two in the fourth. Kiki Smith went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Murua scored twice and drove in one.
Ingleside closed the tournament in a 2-1 loss to Caney Creek. Ward went 3-for-3 in the loss, and Smith and Eppard each added hits.
The Lady Mustangs will begin District 30-4A play Tuesday when they travel to Sinton for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Lady Pirates (9-10).
