Chase DeLauter was arguably the Cleveland Guardians player with the most attention on him coming into spring training. However, he was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup and has missed the last few games with what the team is calling lower body sorenness.

Right now, it feels like DeLauter’s absence is strictly precautionary, and he backed that up.

“Thankfully, it is still February. There’s no rush to really get me back out there. If this was the regular season, I’d probably have been playing the last couple days. But I think [it’s] just trying to figure out how to mitigate what’s going on,” said DeLauter, via MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins.

This is the best response the Guardians and fans could have asked for from DeLauter. Unfortainlly injures have been part of his entire baseball career, and it doesn’t feel like that’ll be going away anytime soon.

DeLauter realizes that and admitted, “when these things come up, how to quickly flush them out and get rolling again. I would say that’s kind of where we’re at.”

Stephen Vogt was happy that DeLauter “spoke up” about the discomfort he was feeling, so the team could get him out of the lineup. On Friday, Cleveland’s skipper said that they were considering the outfielder as day-to-day.

“We don’t want to push any of our players too much too fast, and particularly with Chase. We want to make sure that he’s feeling as close to at his best every time he goes out there during Spring Training,” said Vogt.

DeLauter was back to running on Saturday, and hopefully that means he’ll be back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Even though DeLauter has missed the last few games, he was off to a strong start to the spring before being sidelined. In six at-bats over two games, DeLauter has already logged three hits.

Plus, those hits have had some solid exit velocity, too.

Hopefully, once he’s ready to get back in the batter’s box, DeLauter picks up riht where he left off and can head into Opening Day red hot at the plate, and most importantly, healthy.
