Former Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe took to social media on Friday with the sad announcement that his mother, Wendy, died earlier this week.

Wendy Lowe, also mother to Nathaniel’s brother and Angels outfielder Josh Lowe, had been battling brain cancer for years, dating back to when Nathaniel played with the Rangers.

“You gave us all you had,” Nathaniel wrote on Instagram. “You were always there, always ready for anything, and I know in spirit, you will always be with us.”

Wendy was the subject of MLB intrigue in 2023 when the Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays faced off in the playoffs, pitting Nathaniel and Josh against each other in a series the Rangers ultimately swept before going on to win the World Series. The Dallas Morning News profiled Wendy, Nathaniel and Josh in an October 2023 story prior to the series that can be read here.

Wendy was also part of a viral moment after the Rangers clinched their first championship when Nathaniel spoke directly to her via the camera postgame on the Fox studio aftershow.

Lowe played with the Rangers through 2024 until he was traded to Washington in the offseason. He’s currently in Cincinatti Reds camp as a non-roster invitee.
