CLEMSON — No. 14 Clemson swept a doubleheader from La Salle on Saturday and goes for a four-game sweep on Sunday.
After a narrow 6-4 win in the opener, the Tigers (14-1) blasted the Explorers in the second game with a 16-4 victory via the run rule in seven innings.
In the opener, senior lefty Michael Sharman allowed just three hits and struck out eight in five shutout innings in a 6-4 win. Danny Nelson went two innings for the save.
Jarren Purify was 2 for 3 with two walks, a double and a stolen base for the Tigers, while Tryston McCladdie was
2 for 4 with a walk and a steal. Jay Dillard doubled and drove in two runs.
Game 2 saw the Tigers score three in the first, two in the second and three in the third before erupting for an eight-run fourth inning.
Purify went 2 for 3 with a homer, two walks, two RBIs and four runs scored for Clemson.
South Carolina 10-4, Princeton 7-3
COLUMBIA — Logan Sutter hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as South Carolina swept a doubleheader from Princeton with a 4-3 win at Founders Park.
In the first game, Talmadge LeCroy, KJ Scobey and Sutter all homered for the Gamecocks in a 10-7 win. Sutter was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Scobey was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs and Tyler Bak was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Cooper Parks picked up the win in relief of starter Josh Gunther, who allowed four runs — three earned — on
eight hits with six strikeouts in 31/3 innings. Alex Valentin went 21/3 innings for his
fourth save.
Game 2 saw the Tigers take a 3-2 lead in the sixth. USC got a run back in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by LeCroy.
Will Craddock was 2 for 3 with a hit by pitch and two RBIs, while Sutter was 1 for 3 with a walk.
Hofstra 8, College of Charleston 3
MOUNT PLEASANT —Previously winless Hofstra scored eight unanswered runs to rally from down 2-0 to beat College of Charleston at Patriots Point.
