Tuesday saw a quality win for the Yankees out in Anaheim, winning a team effort that saw Ben Rice and Oswald Peraza homer, and Carlos Rodón at the top of his game. Elsewhere, it was an exciting slate of games around the league, with plenty of excellent pitching and big finishes to go around.

Detroit Tigers (36-20) 3, San Francisco Giants (31-24) 1

The Tigers continued their excellent pace atop the American League with another victory on Tuesday. They benefitted from another excellent effort from their starter, and runs in each of the first three innings were enough for them to make it to the finish line.

They were on a team-wide cycle watch with their early scoring, as they plated a run in the first thanks to a Riley Greene double, another in the second on a Wenceel Pérez home run, and one more in the next frame when Colt Keith tripled down the right field line.

All the while, Jack Flaherty was dishing out some of his very best stuff on the mound for Detroit. The right-hander allowed leadoff singles in the first two innings, but would not allow another knock for the rest of his outing. He finished going six scoreless frames, striking out eight Giants.

The Giants scratched across a run in the ninth to avoid a shutout, but Flaherty and company were too much to handle for the SF bats on Tuesday. Although they didn’t score after the third inning, it was more than enough breathing room for a locked-in Tigers’ staff.

Houston Astros (29-25) 11, Athletics (23-32) 1

It was a shellacking in Houston on Tuesday. The Astros won their third in a row, beating the Athletics by a double-digit margin, with the runs and homers coming hard and fast as they creep closer to the top of the West.

Hunter Brown was excellent for Houston, as the talented right-hander allowed jut one run across his six innings of work, striking out eight A’s in his path. It brings his season ERA down to a clean 2.00 mark, as the 26-year-old continues to shine thus far in 2025.

On the offensive side, things were even more care-free for the Astros. Jeremy Peña homered to cap off a four-run second inning, while Jose Altuve belted a pair of home runs in the third and fourth innings, which put them up 9-1 early on. After a rough stretch, the nine-time All-Star suddenly has a 109 wRC+ on the season.

Christian Walker put the finishing touches on things with a two-run blast in the sixth inning to put the ‘Stros up 10, his seventh on the year. It was smooth sailing from that point on for the Houston bullpen, as they took home an easy one and inch closer to their familiar top spot in the AL West.

Other Games

Los Angeles Dodgers (34-21) 9, Cleveland Guardians (29-25) 5: The Dodgers rode 13 hits on the way to a victory in Cleveland. Shohei Ohtani belted his 20th home run of the season, the first player to do so this season, and Dustin May struck out nine across five innings against the Guards.

Minnesota Twins (30-24) 4, Tampa Bay Rays (27-27) 2: The Twins captured their 30th win of the 2025 season as the Rays fell back to .500 but stayed in second place in the AL East, seven back on New York. Carlos Correa went 3-for-4 and Kody Clemens homered to lead the way, while Joe Ryan hurled six innings of solid one-run ball at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Milwaukee Brewers (28-28) 5, Boston Red Sox (27-30) 1 (10 innings): The Red Sox dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night. They held the lead until the ninth inning, when Sal Frelick tied the game with a single against Aroldis Chapman. An inning later, with the bases full of Brewers, Christian Yelich sent the Milwaukee faithful home awfully happy with a booming walk-off grand slam.

Seattle Mariners (30-23) 9, Washington Nationals (24-30) 1: Cal Raleigh clubbed a pair of homers (getting his count to 19 on the season), and Julio Rodríguez pitched in with a solo shot as the Mariners coasted to a smooth victory against the Nats. With Houston also winning, this helps Seattle maintain their 1.5-game lead in the West for the time being.
