LSU baseball just lost a series at home to a Sacramento State team that entered the weekend with a 3-9 record. This isn’t where LSU expected to be with conference play about to begin.
The lineup has struggled mightily in recent games. Aside from a 15-run outburst on Friday night, the Tigers are struggling to string together consistent ABs.
For LSU infielder Brayden Simpson, it’s about getting back to the process.
“I think it’s still some of that, just getting back to our process, day in, day out. I mean, it’s tough. I mean, there’s a standard here, and I feel like we haven’t quite been meeting that offensively in similar parts of the game as well. And all we can do is just show up tomorrow and clean that stuff up. That’s all we got,” Simpson told reporters after LSU’s loss on Sunday.
Simpson was responsible for LSU’s lone run in Sunday’s loss, driving in Cade Arrambide.

LSU head coach and Jay Johnson both pointed out that LSU took some good swings, but the Tigers were victims of some bad luck.
“You’re going to have your days where you get jammed shot and loop one through, and you’re going to have days where you hit the ball 100-plus three times and not get a hit. I mean, it’s part of it, but we can do more collectively, offensively, to put quality at-bats together, and I think that’s what we just need to get back to doing as a team,” Simpson said.
LSU is struggling throughout the lineup right now. Simpson said the problems could be a little different for each guy. As for Simpson, he’s working on timing up fastballs.
LSU will return to action on Tuesday for a home game vs. Creighton. It’s LSU’s final tune-up before SEC play begins this weekend. The Tigers will open their SEC slate on the road at Vanderbilt.
