The Pittsburgh Pirates are 20-36 at the time of this posting. There’s plenty of disappointment to go around. But there’s a slew of veterans who were thought of as the team’s core who have been particularly disappointing.
David Bednar’s been having a second straight difficult season. He’s sitting on a 0-4 record, a 4.86 ERA, 6 saves, a 1.50 WHIP, and has spent some time in the Minor Leagues this year already. He’s just two seasons removed as an All-Star.
Colin Holderman is on the DL right now, and started off last season with some pretty good performances as a set-up man. But he fell apart as the season went on, and he’s sitting on an ERA of 9.00 and a WHIP of 2.067 in 2025, and opposing batters are hitting .328 against him this season.
Bryan Reynolds saved the day against Arizona, but his batting average of .223, his slugging percentage of .360, and his OPS of .653 are the lowest of his career outside of the shortened 2020 season. He also has a negative WAR in 2025.
Ke’Bryan Hayes continues to provide good defense, but he’s a black hole on offense, hitting just .226, with a slugging percentage of .284 and an OPS of .566, which would all be the lowest of his career. He has just 7 total extra base hits on the season. Disappointing to say the least.
Reynolds and Hayes likely have the most value, while who knows what someone would pay for Bednar or Holderman. In fact, Holderman could be DFA’d when he gets back from injury if the Pirates can’t find a dance partner. Certainly all four have been disappointning, but with the team struggling mightily, which one of these four do you think is most likely to be traded this season?
