SCOTTSDALE — Friday night brought worry to the Arizona Diamondbacks clubhouse after catcher Gabriel Moreno was scratched with right forearm tightness, but Saturday brought some relief.

According to Arizona Central’s Nick Piecoro, manager Torey Lovullo revealed that Moreno’s imaging came back clean in terms of structural damage, showing only inflammation. That eases concerns about a potentially serious injury to one of the team’s most important players.

For the Diamondbacks, it’s an encouraging update that they may not need to expect Moreno to miss an extensive amount of time. His defense and pitch framing have been key for Arizona over the last several years, and his relationships with the pitching staff serve as a stabilizing presence in high-leverage moments.

Inflammation typically points to a shorter recovery window without the need for surgery. It’s not yet clear how long the team plans to shut down the catcher, but Arizona is expected to be cautious while prioritizing rest and treatment to avoid the issue worsening.

As one of the league’s most valuable catchers, Moreno’s availability could affect how Arizona starts the season — something the team won’t want to risk before Opening Day.
