AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – High school baseball teams are settling into district play, and the West Plains Wolves are looking to build on last year’s success. Last season, the Wolves captured the District 4-4A title and made a postseason run that ended in the regional semifinals — the deepest playoff run in program history.
With a new season underway, head coach Colby Chandler said one of the team’s biggest strengths this year is on the mound. The Wolves have leaned on strong pitching early, something they believe will be a big advantage as they navigate a tough district schedule.
Coach emphasizes accountability and pitching
Chandler said the mindset this season is simple — stay accountable and compete every time they take the field.
“Ultimately, you know, the guys on the mound, when they’re on, we’re going to be really tough to beat. And that’s just a mindset those guys have. And so just, we’re excited to see how that plays out through district play,” Chandler said.
Chandler acknowledged the difficulty of their district while emphasizing the team’s approach.
“We were in a tough district. We’ve been in a tough district since we’ve been here and just to go out and know that any team can beat us at any point in time. And so to go out and just play with each other and for each other and hold each other accountable. And that’s been what we’ve really thrived on this year,” he said.

The Wolves return to action Tuesday, March 17 on their home field against the Randall Raiders at 1 p.m.
