World Baseball Classic final to have Royals flare as teammates square off

  • March 17, 2026

MIAMI (KCTV) – The 2026 World Baseball Classic final will have a Kansas City flare to it.

In a March tournament to remember for the Royals, several stars have shown out for their respective national teams.

Tuesday night, Royals superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., pitcher Michael Wacha, and Team USA will go up against Royals captain Salvador Perez, third baseman Maikel Garcia and Team Venezuela in the championship game of the 2026 tournament.

The championship matchup will conclude a WBC that saw seven Royals reach the semifinals of the tournament, including a somewhat out-of-nowhere run from Vinnie Pasquantino, Jac Caglianone and Team Italy to reach the semifinals.

Monday night, Garcia delivered a go-ahead RBI single in Venezuela’s 4-2 semifinal win over Italy, eliminating Italy captain Pasquantino who hit 3 home runs during the tournament.

Witt Jr. has dazzled with his glove throughout the tournament and has hit lead-off for Team USA when he’s been in the lineup.

Garcia has a .435 batting average in six games for Team Venezuela. Witt Jr. has six hits and three stolen bases for the Americans.

Wacha pitched in one game for the U.S. and allowed 3 runs in 3 innings of work.

The World Baseball Classic final will start at 7 p.m. CT Tuesday night at loanDepot Park in Miami.
