SCOTTSDALE — The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed veteran infielder Luis Urías to a minor league free-agent contract, looking to add experienced infield depth ahead of the 2026 season.

Urías appeared in 96 games in 2025 with the Athletics, batting .230 with eight home runs, 25 RBIs and a .653 OPS. The 28-year-old has built a reputation for his defensive versatility across the infield throughout his MLB career.
That flexibility could prove valuable as Arizona looks for someone to fill a role similar to Blaze Alexander’s style of play. Alexander was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for pitching depth, leaving a question about who could emerge as the club’s next utility player.

Debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2018, Urías has spent time with five different clubs over seven seasons. The move represents a low-risk addition to serve as a depth safeguard during the long season, and with his experience, he could quickly become a call-up option if injuries make a major impact on the roster.
For the Diamondbacks, having a player with flexibility in the infield could prove vital, especially as the team continues competing in a stacked National League West division.
