After Venezuela stunned Italy on Monday night, the World Baseball Classic championship matchup is set. The United States will face Venezuela on Tuesday night with the world title on the line.
Paul Skenes helped lead Team USA to a semifinal victory Sunday, and now he’ll watch as his team chases a championship. USA has officially named its starter for the title game.

New York Mets rookie ace Nolan McLean will take the mound in Tuesday night’s championship. McLean already made one start in the tournament and earned a win.

Despite his rookie status, McLean quickly gained the team’s trust. The former Oklahoma State standout will try to deliver Team USA its first WBC title since 2017.
Through four innings in the tournament, McLean has yet to allow an earned run, but he did record six strikeouts in that span.

McLean has carried that momentum into his early major league career. In 2025, he started eight games, posting a 5–1 record with a 2.06 ERA.

Before his call-up, McLean impressed in the minors with an 8–5 record across 18 starts. He also racked up 127 strikeouts while posting a 2.45 ERA.
