Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw revealed his thoughts on the Dodgers’ trip to the White House this year.
Kershaw traveled to the White House with the team following their World Series wins in 2020 and 2024, and said this year wouldn’t be any different.
“I went when President Biden was in office. I’m going to go when President Trump is in office,” Kershaw said. “To me, it’s just about getting to go to the White House. You don’t get that opportunity every day, so I’m excited to go.”
The Dodgers have come under fire since making their decision to go to the White House, with fans divided due to the polarized political climate. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts insists the Dodgers’ trip is purely tradition, and defended the decision when asked about it at DodgerFest.
“I was raised — by a man who served our country for 30 years — to respect the highest office in our country. For me, it doesn’t matter who is in the office, I’m going to go to the White House. I’ve never tried to be political,” Roberts told the Los Angeles Times’ Bill Shaikin. “For me, I am going to continue to try to do what tradition says and not try to make political statements, because I am not a politician.”

While the Dodgers do plan to visit, they will not be making their trip to the Oval Office during their early-season road trip to face the Washington Nationals, per the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett. The Dodgers will be in Washington D.C. from April 3-5.
Plunkett also provided some insight on when the Dodgers may make their trip.
“A side trip to D.C. before the July 17-19 series at Yankee Stadium would shorten the All-Star break by a day for Dodgers players – a sacrifice many would not likely endorse,” Plunkett wrote. “After three games in Philadelphia, however, the Dodgers have an off day before returning to New York for a three-game series against the Mets.
“That off day (July 23) might be the least disruptive – and therefore most likely – to schedule a return to the White House.”
