The Mets failed to complete the sweep of the White Sox falling 9-4 in the series finale. The White Sox scored early and often and the Mets never got it going after getting into an early hole.

With rain in the forecast this game got moved to a 1:10pm start and the team looked as sloppy as the predicted forecast. Griffin Canning was on the mound for the series finale after rain abbreviated his last start. He did not last long in this one either but that was due to poor performance and not the weather. The White Sox scored five runs in the first three innings although Canning was not helped out much by the defense in the second when they made two errors behind him. Still he was not sharp all day and he departed after three innings.

Brandon Waddell entered after Canning and did not stop the bleeding. In an effort to save the bullpen, Carlos Mendoza left Waddell out there to wear it which officially put the game out of reach. He gave up four runs in five innings but save the bullpen he did which hopefully pays off down the line.

As for the Mets offense they were as stagnant as ever. The majority of their runs came off the bat of Mark Vientos who hit an opposite field three-run home run in the third inning. They added a run in the ninth when former Met Miguel Castro unfortunately twisted an ankle covering first base and had to depart the game. Bryse Wilson was then pressed into service to get the final out but he gave up a RBI double to Pete Alonso before Vientos struck out to end the game.

This was certainly a game to forget but the good news is that they still won the series and next up they welcome the historically bad Rockies to Citi Field for a three-game series.
