The Chicago White Sox have a lot of young talent throughout their organization. While some are expected to get the call to the big leagues, others are still refining their skills. One prospect has been able to showcase one of their top tools throughout Spring Training. Let’s take a closer look at that prospect and what they have done that is so remarkable.
Chicago White Sox prospect William Bergolla Jr impresses with bat-to-ball skills

MLB’s David Adler wrote an article regarding MLB prospects that have had some incredible Statcast data in Spring Training. One White Sox prospect was included as William Bergolla Jr’s ability to make contact is unmatched right now. Below is the snippet he wrote about Bergolla:
“Bergolla has the Steven Kwan/Luis Arraez skill set. He doesn’t hit the ball hard, but he always hits the ball. Bergolla’s bat-to-ball skills have been exceptional this spring. The 21-year-old middle infielder has played 14 Spring Training games, stepped to the plate 33 times and seen 89 pitches … and he just swung and missed for the very first time on Sunday, when Royals ace Cole Ragans struck him out with a nasty slider in a lefty-lefty matchup. Even with that strikeout, one K in 33 plate appearances is absurd. The White Sox’s No. 11 prospect has made contact on 37 of his 38 swings.”
The ability to make contact and not strike out is critical for success. Being able to put the bat on the ball and make things happen puts pressure on the pitcher and the defense. This is not a tool he has just picked up either, as his ability to not strike out has been on display his entire professional career. In 1,059 career at-bats in the minors, Chicago’s 11th-ranked prospect has struck out just 84 times.
In an era where swings and misses are not as penalized, Bergolla brings a rare ability of contact to dominate the competition. It will be intriguing to see how he does making contact in 2026.
