As Opening Day approaches, one veteran New York Mets pitcher knows this could be his final year ever playing in Major League Baseball.

Craig Kimbrel, one of the most accomplished relievers of this era, is still looking to find a spot. While there have been positive signs with his stuff, his latest comments show that he’s close to the end.
“We’re getting close to the end,” Kimbrel said, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. “My body feels good. I wish I could show a little bit more out there velocity-wise. I’m throwing most of my pitches like I want to, but not all of them. That’s about where I am.”
It isn’t too surprising to hear Kimbrel say that the end could be near. For a pitcher who has been throwing for a very long time now, there are only so many bullets left in that arm.
For the Mets, the hope is that Kimbrel does what he has to do, even if he decides to hang them up after the season. One more final campaign of him throwing the baseball at a high level is all the Mets need.
