CLEARWATER — Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced his starting rotation entering the 2026 season on Saturday, beyond Cristopher Sánchez getting the Opening Day nod.
The 2026 Phillies Starting Rotation ScheduleCristopher Sánchez vs. Rangers on Thursday, March 26Aaron Nola vs. Rangers on Saturday, March 28Jesus Luzardo vs. Rangers on Sunday, March 29Taijuan Walker vs. Nationals on Monday, March 30Andrew Painter vs. Nationals on Tuesday, March 31Zack Wheeler Injury Update: Timeline for Return
Painter will be the only newcomer in the Phillies’ rotation, replacing Ranger Suarez, who signed with Boston in free agency. He will start the season as the Phillies No. 5 starter, but it will be interesting to see if it is Painter or Walker who is removed from the rotation when Wheeler is ready to return.
My guess is Painter stays in the rotation, and Walker heads back to a role similar to what he had in 2025 as a long man in the Phillies bullpen.
Scouting the Opposition: Rangers Probable Starters
The Phillies will face Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on Opening Day at Citizens Bank Park. He will be followed by Jacob deGrom on Saturday and lefty Mackenzie Gore on Sunday.
