Spring training comes to a close in the next few days, but Monday will see a game between the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers.
MLB teams have returned home for the start of their respective seasons and on Monday night, the Texas Rangers will play their first game at Globe Life Field since the fall as they host the Kansas City Royals in their penultimate Cactus League game. Both clubs are beginning to fine tune roster selections as they use these last few spring training games to iron out rotations and give players important at-bats before the regular season begins later this week. Fans can look for both teams to work through lineups and pitching depth on Monday, with players getting crucial work in at the plate and on the mound. As managers jockey through roster spots between up-and-coming players and veterans, the competition will heat up both on the field and in the dugout as the Texas sun sets.

The Royals’ most recent game was played against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday and resulted in a narrow 6-5 victory. The win was credited to Beck Way after throwing one inning in relief and striking out one batter. Offensively, the team spread the scoring out, as five different players ended up with an RBI. The team trailed by four going into the bottom of the fifth and the first run came across home plate on a wild pitch. Brett Squires followed with a solo shot to right center. Nick Loftin, Drew Waters, Abraham Toro and Rudy Martin brought in the other four runs for Kansas City to improve to 9-19.
Texas comes into Monday night’s game with a 16-12 spring training record, but the team will be looking to bounce back in front of its home fans after dropping a 5-2 game to the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Similarly to the Royals, the Rangers fell behind in their game, trailing 4-0 before they were able to get on the board. The team’s only runs came from a Trevor Hauver two-run double in the top of the eighth to score Nick Pratto and Cameron Cauley. Austin Gomber took the loss on the mound after pitching for 4.2 innings and giving up three earned runs. Gomber was able to strike out two batters during his time on the mound, but the three-run homer he gave up cost him the win.
The Royals and Rangers met last week in Arizona and the game went in Texas’ favor with a strong 12-3 victory. They also met in early March and Texas won handily in a 15-9 win. The teams will meet again on Tuesday ahead of opening day later this week.
