Spring training comes to a close in the next few days, but Monday will see a game between the Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies in Arizona.

Both clubs are beginning to fine tune roster selections as they use these spring training games to iron out rotations and give players important at-bats before the regular season begins next week. Fans can look for both teams to work through lineups and pitching depth on Monday, with players getting crucial work in at the plate and on the mound. As managers jockey through roster spots between up-and-coming players and veterans, the competition will heat up both on the field and in the dugout as the Arizona sun sets.

The Tigers’ most recent game was played on Saturday against the Yankees and resulted in a 3-1 win to improve to 8-12 in spring training play. Framber Valdez earned the win to improve to 2-0 after throwing 6.1 innings and striking out four batters while only giving up one earned run. Kerry Carpenter opened the scoring for Detroit with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and Dillon Dingler added another run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Matt Vierling brought in the final run with a ground-rule RBI double to bring home John Peck. The Tigers will officially open the 2026 season on Thursday against the Padres.

The Rockies come into Monday night’s game following a narrow 6-5 victory over the Athletics on Sunday to move to 14-14 in Cactus League play. The A’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Colorado got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Ezequiel Tovar. The lead was cut in half when Brenton Doyle was walked to score Hunter Goodman. Ryan Ritter followed with a solo shot to center field to bring the game within one. Edouard Julien also hit a solo home run to tie the game up before Willi Castro and Bryant Betancourt each hit RBI singles to put the Rockies up 6-4. The Athletics tacked on one more run, but strong defense allowed Colorado to hold on for the win.

The Tigers and Rockies will meet again on Tuesday before their respective seasons begin later in the week. The Rockies will open against the Marlins in Miami with a three-game series before their own home opener against the Phillies next week.
