The Houston Astros get a final dress rehearsal on Tuesday night against their Triple-A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, before the regular season begins.

The Houston Astros open the 2026 season on Thursday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angels and get a final tuneup on Tuesday night when they take on their Triple-A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, at Daikin Park in Houston. The Astros set their starting rotation on Monday, optioning right-hander Spencer Arrighetti to Sugar Land and handing the fifth spot in the rotation to veteran Lance McCullers Jr., who fills out a group that includes Opening Day starter Hunter Brown, newcomer Mike Burrows, Cristian Javier and Japanese free agent Tatsuya Imai.

The Astros opened the two-game exhibition series on Monday night with a 9-1 victory over the Space Cowboys. Imai allowed two hits and struck out three in 3.2 scoreless innings and right-hander Enyel De Los Santos struck out the side in the seventh. Lucas Spence clubbed a three-run home run in a six-run ninth inning for Houston as well.

Sugar Land got its only run in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Cavan Biggio. Left-hander Colton Gordon, who made 10 starts for the big club in 2025, allowed one earned run on four hits over five innings while Shay Whitcomb had two hits, including a double.

Houston missed the postseason in 2025 for the first time since 2016, losing a tiebreaker to the Detroit Tigers for the third and final American League wild card berth.
