NORTH PORT, Fla. (WWSB) – Spring training has reached its conclusion for the year all of the teams that call the Suncoast home this time of year.
The final game on the Suncoast for the 2026 was between the Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays at CoolToday Park in North Port on Tuesday. There was a crowd of 5,900 people in attendance to watch the team go at it on the diamond.
Cam Booser took the mound as the Rays starting pitcher for the contest. Meanwhile for Atlanta, their starter was Grant Holmes.
Scoring for the matchup started in the top of the second inning. Carson Williams hit an RBI single that brought in Junior Caminero for the first run of the game.
Atlanta responded in the bottom of the third inning when Drake Baldwin recorded and RBI double that allowed Ronald Acuna Jr. to score and tie things up at 1-1.
Atlanta took the lead in the next inning when Mike Yastrzemski hit a solo home run into left field.
Jorge Mateo increased the Braves lead in the fifth inning by hitting an RBI double into center field that brought in Baldwin for the score.
Tampa Bay scored their second run in the sixth inning, but the Braves held them off to get the 3-2 victory.
Now, teams will shift their focus to the 162 game regular season schedule that begins this week.
The following is the opening day schedule for teams that call the Suncast home for spring training: On Thursday, Pittsburgh makes the trip to New York to take on the Mets (1:15 p.m.), the Baltimore Orioles host the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards (3:05 p.m.), and the Tampa Bay Rays travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals (4:15 p.m.)
The Atlanta Braves season starts on Friday when they host the Kansas City Royals at Truist Park. (7:15 p.m.)
