SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Texas Rangers’ big league rotation should be considered one of baseball’s best this season with a five-man staff that includes a two-time Cy Young award winner, a postseason hero and a handful of former phenoms.

Their rotations down on the farm shouldn’t be half bad either.

Here’s a projection of what the club’s minor league affiliate rotations could look like this season, with the caveats that final roster decisions won’t be made until camp breaks, and the exact way in which the organization plans to handle some of their young arms remains to be determined.

The rotation: RHP Cal Quantrill, RHP Austin Gomber, RHP Jose Corniell, RHP Trey Supak, RHP Josh Stephan.

The details: Quantrill and Gomber both have big league experience and can provide the Rangers early-season depth in the rotation. Corniell is the No. 6 prospect on The Dallas Morning News’ top 30 prospect list, debuted in the big leagues last year and was sidetracked this spring with a shoulder/tricep injury.

Double-A Frisco

The rotation: RHP David Davalillo, RHP Winston Santos, RHP Leandro Lopez, LHP Josh Trentadue, RHP Austin Bergner, LHP Blake Townsend.

The details: The Rough Riders’ is loaded with premier prospects. Davalillo (No. 7), Santos (No. 8) and Lopez (No. 13) are each among the top half of The News’ list. Trentadue, who spent the second half of last season in Frisco and made seven starts, is ranked No. 27. It’s not inconceivable that Davalillo, Santos or Lopez pitch for the Rangers this year.

High-A Hub City/Low-A Hickory

Top prospects: RHP Caden Scarborough, RHP AJ Russell, LHP Dalton Pence, RHP Ismael Agreda, RHP Aidan Curry,

The details: Consider this the hotbed area for potential breakout arms — and, for a little more fluidity, as players can advance quickly around these parts.

The club’s newest affiliate could feature its top two pitching prospects in Spartanburg, S.C. at some point this season. Scarborough, who reached High-A Hub City last season, is the organization’s consensus best pitching prospect but will be slow-played early because he reported to camp later after a melanoma diagnosis. Russell, a second-round pick out of Tennessee last season, is considered by some to be directly behind him on the prospect lists. Both could play their way to Double-A Frisco if they can handle the South Atlantic League early on. Pence, the No. 22 player on The News’ top 30, was the only one of this group who pitched on the big league side in camp this year.

Arizona Complex League and Dominican Summer League

The rotations: RHP Frandel Pineda, RHP/SS Josh Owens, RHP/SS Seong-Jun Kim, RHP Jake Barbee, RHP Jacob Johnson, RHP Mason McConaughey, LHP Ben Abeldt.

The details: The club’s pair of two-way prospects — Owens and Kim — are expected to see time at the plate and on the mound in the ACL this summer. Barbee, a 6-3 high school right-hander whom the Rangers selected in the 12th round of last year’s draft, has been a buzzy name this camp and could blow up this season. Pineda, the nephew of former big leaguer Michael Pineda, is a hard-throwing 17-year-old who’ll get his first professional taste in the DSL this year.

Abeldt, McConnaughey and Johnson were each 2025 draftees and could at the very least end their seasons at the Single-A level. Abeldt could be a quick riser in the organization. McConnaughey (who likely won’t make his professional debut until May or June after elbow surgery) and Johnson are considered breakout candidates this season.
