Ron Marinaccio was on the line for introductions in New York in 2022 and 2023. Because so much time had passed between making a team for opening-day festivities, it’s hardly old hat to break camp with the Padres to start the 2026 season.

“It’s been two years without being on an opening day roster, so it’s definitely special to be back here,” the 30-year-old reliever said Wednesday before a team workout at Petco Park. “Brings you back to being a little kid again. You remember those Little League days like opening day. All the teams are at the field. You see all your buddies around. It’s a similar feeling. Everybody’s excited to get the season started again.”

A spot for Marinaccio opened because two relievers — right-hander Jason Adam (left quad) and left-hander Yuki Matsui (left groin) — are among the Padres opening the season on the shelf. Adam, Matsui and right-handers Griffin Canning (left Achilles), Bryan Hoeing (right elbow), Joe Musgrove (right elbow) and Matt Waldron (hemorrhoid surgery) are on the 15-day injured list, while infielders Sung-Mun Song and Will Wagner — both nursing right oblique injuries — will begin the season on the 10-day injured list.

The team also placed rehabbing right-hander Yu Darvish on the restricted list as he considers his long-term future with the organization. That, along with outrighting Daison Acosta off the 40-man roster earlier this month, cleared the way for the Padres to select the contracts of right-hander Walker Buehler and infielder Ty France, both of whom won jobs after beginning spring training on minor league deals.

Darvish underwent surgery on his right UCL and flexor tendon in October, wiping out the 2026 season. It is an open question whether the 39-year-old will pitch again for the Padres despite being under contract through 2028.

Right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez will be part of opening day festivities for the first time in his career. The 22-year-old reliever made his big league debut last May 31 after pitching at three levels in the minors in 2024.

“Just grateful to be up here at this time,” Rodriguez said through interpreter Jorge Merlos. “It’s one of my goals that I’ve always had to get up and just to think of where I started out to where I am now, it’s a privilege.”

Buehler and Germán Márquez made the team as the fourth and fifth starters, respectively. Left-hander Kyle Hart is a long man out of the bullpen, while Luis Campusano is the backup catcher and Bryce Johnson made the team as the fourth outfielder.

Here is the entirety of the Padres’ opening day roster:
