HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — As the heart of Houston transforms into a sports fan’s dream, the additional traffic and weekend construction closures may make the experience of traveling to and from these events a bit of a nightmare.
A multitude of sports events are happening in the Houston area this weekend. The Texas Children’s Houston Open is underway at Memorial Park. The home opener for the Houston Astros is on Thursday afternoon at Daikin Park, followed by two Sweet 16 games at the Toyota Center in the evening. It’s safe to say we can expect some heavy traffic.
At the same time, there’s major work being done on I-10 this weekend. Pavement repairs are taking place on I-10 near Memorial Park.
TxDOT crews will close the eastbound mainlanes of I-10 Katy Freeway from I-610 West Loop/US 290 to Washington Avenue and Westcott for pavement repairs, starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 27, until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 30.
In The Heights near downtown Houston, a frontage road closure for the White Oak Bayou project will force more traffic onto the I-10 mainlanes and nearby White Oak Drive, TxDOT said.
TxDOT also announced that the I-10 Katy frontage road from Studemont Street to Heights Boulevard will be closed starting at 10 p.m. on March 27, until 5 a.m. on March 30.
Furthermore, TxDOT said that the I-10 westbound exit ramp to Heights Boulevard will be closed at 10 p.m. on March 27, until further notice.
