DuBOIS — Opening the season last Saturday with a 10-0 loss in five innings to Curwensville, the Brookville Lady Raiders softball team were scheduled to play twice this week.

Thursday and Friday, the Lady Raiders were scheduled to visit Redbank Valley and Brockway respectively before next Tuesday’s trip to Central Clarion at the C-L Sports Complex.

At Heindl, the Lady Raiders ran into standout Tide pitcher Addison Siple who tossed a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and three walks.

The lone Lady Raiders hit came on Gabby West’s two-out infield single into the hole between third base and shortstop in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded and Megan McKinney up, the rally ended when Cassidy Sarvey was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch.

From there, Siple retired the final nine of 11 batters she faced, striking out eight. In the fourth, Palynn Lindermuth reached on an error and Sarvey reached on a fielders’ choice with no outs, but Siple struck out the side to end the threat then retired the side in the fifth.

Curwensville scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second off Brookville freshman starter Eliza Shaffer who made her varsity debut with three innings, striking out two, walking two and giving up eight hits. Sarvey and Lindermuth threw in the Tide’s five-run bottom of the fifth with four hits and five runs coming off Sarvey.

Kylah Wos had three hits for Curwensville while Siple, Eliza Aughenbaugh, Sydney Simcox and Briah Peoples each finished with two hits. Siple, Peoples and Wos all hit doubles with Aughenbaugh tripling.

Also next week, the Lady Raiders visit Elk County Catholic Wednesday before hosting Keystone Thursday.
