Garrett Crochet combined with three relievers on a four-hitter on Thursday as Boston beat the Reds 3-0. Crochet allowed three of those hits while striking out eight and Ceddanne Rafaela broke up a scoreless game with an RBI single in the seventh inning. Trevor Story and Jarren Duran padded the lead with run-scoring base hits in the top of the ninth and Aroldis Chapman locked down the win with a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame.

Andrew Abbott scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings before the bullpen was touched up after the left-hander departed the game. Sal Stewart provided most of the Cincinnati offense, getting three of the team’s four hits, including a pair of doubles. Pierce Johnson was tagged with the loss after giving up hits to two of the three batters he faced to open the top of the seventh.

Right-hander Brady Singer gets the start for the Reds on Saturday after working to a 4.03 ERA and 1.238 WHIP across 32 starts and 169.2 innings last season. Newcomer Sonny Gray, a veteran right-hander acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, makes his Red Sox debut on Saturday. He put up a 4.28 ERA and 1.234 WHIP over 180.2 innings and 32 starts in 2025, striking out 201.
