Chris Sale worked six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out six, to lead Atlanta to a 6-0 victory on opening night Friday. Michael Harris II hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning after Ozzie Albies got the Braves on the board with a solo shot in the first and Drake Baldwin went deep in the third. Newcomer Mauricio Dubon added a two-run double in the seventh as well.
Cole Ragans surrendered four runs in four innings while taking the loss for the Royals, striking out five and walking four and departing after throwing 90 pitches. Bobby Witt Jr. had two of Kansas City’s five hits, all singles, in the loss.
The Braves give the ball to right-hander Reynaldo Lopez on Saturday night. Lopez was limited to one start and five innings last season before undergoing surgery on his shoulder after earning an All-Star berth in his first season in Atlanta in 2024. Veteran right-hander Michael Wacha gets the call for Kansas City. He worked to a 3.86 ERA and 1.222 WHIP in 31 starts and 172.2 innings last season.
