The St. Louis Cardinals (2-0) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (0-2) 6-5 in ten innings on Saturday afternoon. The Rays have now dropped the season opening series in St. Louis.
The Cardinals got two runs in the first and two in the eighth inning to build a 4-0 lead. The Rays were able to answer with four runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game 4-4 and force extra innings
Yandy Diaz drove in a run for the Rays in the top of the tenth to give Tampa Bay the lead, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the tenth. JJ Weatherholt came through with a two-run single to give the Cardinals the walk-off win.
The Rays will now look to avoid being swept when they meet in the final game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.
