There’s always a bit of concern when velocity isn’t where it’s expected to be, and for Sean Manaea, that’s been somewhat of an issue over the past few weeks. Making his first start in the regular season, the left-hander’s velocity wasn’t where it needed to be.
After his latest outing, Manaea didn’t say that mechanics were off or try to figure out what’s really going on. Instead, he’s happy that he feels good and expects his velocity to come back to him sometime soon.
“To me, I feel good,” he said after the game. “I know it will come; it is what it is. Overall, I feel healthy, and yeah, I think it will turn eventually,” he said, per SNY.
“I don’t have anything going on with my shoulder or elbow or anything like that,” he said. “I’ve pitched like this before in the past and, eventually, it does come, but I think I just need more reps. And I’m confident it will come.”
As long as Manaea doesn’t feel bad, the New York Mets don’t have any reason to panic just yet. It’s not even April yet, and with the weather still not being great, it’s not surprising at all that his velocity is down. If this is still a problem in a month or so, I’d say we should start to worry a bit. However, let’s see him get a few starts under his belt before we make any assumptions.
